Verified Veterinarian
I know this is a cliche, but I have always wanted to be a veterinarian. I grew up on a farm with lots of animals and I’ve always felt compassion towards them. My parents told me a story once about a time where we went to a theme park when I was about 5, and the host brought all the kids on stage and asked them what they wanted to be when they grow up – kids would say “cowboy”, astronaut”, “doctor”, etc. When he got to me, I said “veterinarian” (My parents didn’t even know I could say that word). This is just something I’ve always wanted to do and there’s never really been a plan B for me that did not involve veterinary medicine. I started working at a vet clinic when I was 14 and that experience really solidified my decision to pursue a career as a vet. I loved the fact that the vet I worked for gave a voice to those that could not speak for them selves. I loved talking to the people and learning about their relationship with their pet. Moreso, I loved seeing what a difference you can make in someone’s life by healing and/or saving their pet, which they consider a family member. That experience along with various others since then helped me be secure in my decision to become a DVM. As far as reason behind wanting to provide in-home euthanasias, I think the human-animal bond is a very unique and precious bond - we view our pets as our family and we want them to be happy always, especially in those last moments. I think being able to provide this service which allows pets to be in the comfort of their home and allowing any and all family members to be there or at least say goodbye at their own pace, is an extremely rewarding service to be able to provide.
